M&M Sugar Cookies

These soft and puffy sugar cookies are packed with M&Ms!

I am no stranger to an M&M cookie. They aren’t my absolute favorite but I still really love them. This recipe is a little unique because it is a sugar cookie dough that has cream of tartar in it, so it’s this lovely combination of a sugar cookie flavor with almost a snickerdoodle like texture BUT with M&Ms. My youngest is particularly a huge fan of M&M cookies, so he was all about these!

What You Need:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 1/4 cup plain M&Ms, divided

Directions:

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, cream together butter and sugar with a paddle attachment.

  2. Then add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla until just combined.

  3. Add baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and flour. Mix until just combined.

  4. Stir in 3/4 cup M&Ms.

  5. Scoop 2 Tbsp. balls of dough onto parchment or silicone mat lined cookie sheets.

  6. Top each cookie with 4 to 5 additional M&Ms.

  7. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes.

  8. Cool for 5 minutes on cookie sheet before removing to a wire rack.
