Best Potato Rolls

The absolute best rolls you will ever have ever - no other bread will come close!

I am beyond excited to finally share this recipe - it has become one of our all-time favorite recipes. My kids all love it and request it for every single holiday. This past Christmas I made a different bread recipe and they were so disappointed. I know they’ll end up being made at Easter. I’ve made this recipe for work Thanksgiving and I think everyone that had one raved about them. They are so tender and fluffy and incredible.

What You Need:

  • 3 cups milk

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup instant potato flakes (I like the butter-flavored ones)

  • 1 Tbsp. salt

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 Tbsp. instant yeast or 2 Tbsp. regular yeast

  • 7 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup additional butter, softened

Directions:

  1. Add milk to a medium saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Cook until edges begin to foam but do not let the milk boil. It will have a layer of “skin” on top.

  3. Remove from heat and then add sugar, 3/4 cup butter, potato flakes, and salt. Stir until well combined and then allow to cool until lukewarm.

  4. Add yeast and stir. Then add eggs and stir until combined.

  5. Add 6 cups of flour to a large bowl and add milk mixture.

  6. Stir until dough comes together but is still soft. It should be slightly sticky. Add more flour up an additional 1 cup (7 cups total), if needed.

  7. Cover with a towel or cling wrap. Let rise for 1 hour.

  8. Push down and divide dough into 4 parts. Roll out each part into 1/2-inch thick circles.

  9. Using additional 1/3 cup butter, spread on 2 of the 4 circles.

  10. Place the non-buttered circles on the buttered circles and press the edges to seal.

  11. Cut circles into 16 wedges. Roll up starting from the wide edge and tightly roll into crescent rolls.

  12. Place on parchment paper-lined or lightly greased baking sheet. Cover with a towel and let rise for 1 to 2 more hours or until doubled in size.

  13. Once doubled, bake in batches in a preheated 350 degree oven for 14 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
