Italian Pizza Burgers
Delicious flavors of pizza with a dash of red wine all in between two burger buns!
I have made a couple different pizza burgers and typically they all use a mix of sausage and beef. I personally can be kind of picky with my burgers. I don't mind a mix every so often, but a majority of the time I like just beef. I also used to really enjoy a bunch of different things in my burger mix and then now I prefer salt and pepper - leaving the variation up to the toppings on the burger. I was a little skeptical of this burger because, even though it was just beef, there was a variety of spices plus wine to add to the beef mix. I wasn't really really worried because I love the ingredients that I saw, but still...I'm always unsure of how I'll like a burger with pizzazz.
I ended up loving this burger so much! The spices were very Italian/pizza/spaghetti seasonings and I figured I would end up being fine with them. The wine added a nice flavor to the beef and overall composition of the burger. I think it would have been strange to not have that richness from the wine. Of course, I loved the gooey mozzarella and sauteed onions and peppers. I'm going to be happy with most any dish if it has sauteed veggies!
What you need:
1 lb. ground beef (per 4 burgers)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground pepper
1/2 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/4 tsp. fennel
1/2 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. dry red wine
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
1 oz. pepperoni, diced
Sliced mozzarella cheese
Green bell pepper, sliced
Sweet yellow onion, sliced
1 1/2 tsp. olive oil
4 hamburger buns
1/2 cup pizza sauce
Directions:
Mix together beef through pepperoni in a large bowl. Shape into 4 patties.
Cook on a grill or in a skillet, flipping once and topping with cheese in last few minutes of cooking.
Meanwhile, toss pepper and onion with olive oil. Cook in grill basket or in a skillet for 3 to 5 minutes.
Serve burgers topped with peppers and onions and pizza sauce on the top bun.
